Spencer Fane Team to Speak at Midwest Environmental Compliance Conference

September 9, 2022

Spencer Fane attorneys Andrew Brought, Jason Flower, and Jessica Merrigan will each present at the Midwest Environmental Compliance Conference (MECC) September 13-14. The firm is also proud to sponsor the annual conference.

On the first day of the conference, Jason will moderate a session on the numerous programs created to support domestic production of critical minerals and overcome the country’s over-reliance on foreign sources of critical minerals. The panel will outline efforts to support critical minerals production and discuss projects in the pipeline, potential impediments, and potentially promising opportunities to source critical minerals in the Midwest.

Later that day, Jessie will serve as a panelist for a presentation, Emerging Contaminants: PFAS/PFOA, 1,4 dioxane, and Beyond, focused on the many challenges facing emerging contaminants, especially PFOA/PFAS. Panelists will also provide practical advice to deal with emerging contaminants in drinking water, air emissions, consumer products, groundwater, workplace protection, due diligence for properties, cleanups, permit compliance, and toxic torts.

The next day, Drew will serve as both a speaker and the moderator during a panel presentation, Compliance and Enforcement Roundtable. During the event, the panel will address a variety of pressing environmental enforcement and compliance topics in Region 7 EPA, including environmental justice and settlements integrating the use of Supplemental Environmental Projects (SEPs), as well as other compliance and litigation issues on the horizon.

At Spencer Fane, Jason is an environmental attorney with a nationwide practice focused on assisting corporate clients, especially in the chemical, manufacturing, mining, energy, and agricultural industries, with managing their environmental liabilities.

Jessica currently serves as Co-Chair of the Environment and Energy Practice Group. She counsels clients on environmental matters regarding regulatory requirements and represents them in litigation of environmental claims, including contribution claims under the federal Superfund law.

Andrew counsels manufacturers, industrial clients, and businesses with complex environmental and workplace safety/OSHA matters. He has a particular focus on chemical accident prevention programs, including EPA’s Risk Management Program (RMP) and OSHA’s Process Safety Management (PSM) program and cases involving chemical releases.
