Spencer Fane attorneys Sam Jackson, Charles W. Bone, and Bethany Vanhooser presented a session at the Tennessee Municipal League (TML) 83rd Annual Conference and Expo July 24 in Nashville. Summer associate Jackson Hasty also attended and helped prepare the conference materials.
The team led the workshop Social Media and the First Amendment, which analyzed free speech issues faced by elected officials when interacting with their community on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram. The presentation discussed appropriate reactions to negative comments and what First Amendment implications exist when navigating social media.
The 2023 TML Annual Conference took place at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel July 22-25 and provided workshops, networking opportunities, and other educational resources for municipal elected leaders across Tennessee. The event serves to advance TML’s purpose of working with the Tennessee General Assembly on behalf of city governments in the name of mutual assistance and improvement.
