Since first appearing on The American Lawyer’s AmLaw 200, Spencer Fane has marked the largest percentage revenue increase of any firm on the ranking over the last five-year period, maintaining a pace as the fastest-growing law firm among its peers.
The firm’s growth has been made possible by attracting and retaining an exceptionally talented team of attorneys across its footprint, which has led the firm to make a similar climb on The American Lawyer’s Diversity Scorecard.
The firm improved its position to #151 on the recently released AmLaw 200 ranking and achieved an even higher position as #131 on the Diversity Scorecard, which is a reflection of the firm’s intentional effort to build, maintain, and leverage a diverse and inclusive law firm for the benefit of the firm’s culture, clients and community.
Spencer Fane’s revenue has increased by 105 percent since first appearing on the AmLaw 200 in 2019 and more recently has climbed to #131 from a position of #184 when first appearing on the Diversity Scorecard in 2021.
And while the firm joined the AmLaw 200 five years ago, Spencer Fane’s growth is not a new phenomenon. In fact, the firm has achieved double-digit increases in revenue each of the last 10 years as part of a growth strategy designed to meet the increasing needs of clients in key markets across the nation.
It is a strategy that most recently caught the attention of The American Lawyer as an example of how “off-the-radar expansion allows firms to generate cost savings from cheaper markets, as well as attract regional talent without forcing commutes or moves into major metros.”
“In the wake of COVID, I think more organizations are embracing it,” Spencer Fane Chair Patrick J. Whalen told The American Lawyer. “We embraced it well before COVID, but it’s more about our talent proposition, and it’s more about what our professionals want.”
The American Lawyer also recently spotlighted Spencer Fane for having “led the way” in 2022 with revenue growth that continued to outpace peer firms in Missouri, where the firm has a particularly strong presence, and first reported on the firm’s growth in a 2019 article.
