Marijuana in Schools: What Educators Need to Know

January 12, 2023

12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. CT

Spencer Fane attorneys Stephanie Lovett-Bowman and Bethany Vanhooser will present an upcoming webinar on the effect of evolving state marijuana laws on schools.

While marijuana remains an illegal drug at the federal level, an increasing number of states are legalizing marijuana for medical and/or recreational purposes. Most recently, Missouri joined the list of states to legalize marijuana for adults age 21 and older. This creates tension not just between divergent state and federal criminal laws; it also gives rise to quandaries for schools when students and employees may seek disability-related accommodations to use or be under the influence of marijuana on school property.

The 60-minute webinar will include:

  • An overview of state marijuana laws;
  • Guidance regarding employee and student marijuana use and requests for accommodations; and
  • Suggestions for policy considerations.
