Spencer Fane LLP is pleased to welcome Anica C. Jones to the firm’s Nashville, Tennessee, office as an of counsel attorney in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Group.
Drawing on two decades of trial experience across federal and state forums, Anica will guide businesses and individuals through high-stakes disputes, government investigations, and regulatory challenges. She most recently served as Chief of the Civil Division at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Tennessee. As Civil Chief, she supervised all civil actions involving the federal government, including health care fraud investigations and other matters arising under the False Claims Act, civil rights, torts, constitutional claims, employment discrimination, immigration, bankruptcy, and asset forfeiture. In addition to supervising, Anica maintained a case load as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, litigating a wide range of complex federal claims.
Within Anica’s diverse litigation career, she has both enforced federal laws and defended federal agencies. She has extensive experience developing litigation strategies, conducting investigations, leading discovery, drafting dispositive motions and other legal briefs, negotiating resolutions, and advocating for clients in hearings, trial, and appellate proceedings.
Earlier in her career, Anica was a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Bernice B. Donald in the Western District of Tennessee. She was also a trial attorney for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, where she litigated matters arising under Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Equal Pay Act, and the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act. In addition, she has represented federal agencies in employment matters before administrative tribunals, arbitrators, and the Merit Systems Protection Board.

Anica matriculated through the Atlanta University Center Consortium Dual Degree Engineering Program, completing bachelor’s degrees in industrial engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and mathematics, cum laude, from Spelman College. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Tennessee College of Law.
Anica is active in several local and regional legal associations, including an appointment to the Middle District of Tennessee’s Local Rules Committee.
