Anica C. Jones
Overview
Anica Jones represents businesses and individuals in complex litigation, drawing on two decades of trial experience across federal and state forums. Having most recently served as Chief of the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Nashville, Tennessee, she is an astute problem solver who brings a confident, results-oriented approach to helping clients navigate high-stakes disputes, government investigations, and regulatory challenges. As Civil Chief, she supervised all civil actions involving the U.S. government, including health care fraud investigations and other matters arising under the False Claims Act, civil rights, torts, constitutional challenges, employment discrimination, immigration, bankruptcy, and asset forfeiture.
Throughout her diverse career primarily in the public sector, Anica has handled affirmative and defensive litigation and acquired in-depth subject matter knowledge in many areas of the law. She has extensive experience developing litigation strategies, conducting investigations, leading discovery, drafting dispositive motions and other legal briefs, negotiating resolutions, and advocating for clients in hearings, trial, and appellate proceedings. She has notably served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) in both Nashville and Savannah, Georgia.
Earlier in her career, Anica was a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Bernice B. Donald in the Western District of Tennessee. She also served as a trial attorney for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, prosecuting cases arising under Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Equal Pay Act, and the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act. In addition, she has defended the Department of Veterans Affairs in employment matters before administrative tribunals, arbitrators, and the Merit Systems Protection Board. As an AUSA, Anica defended employment discrimination actions in district court brought against federal agencies.
Anica gained significant experience in tort litigation, handling various matters arising under the Federal Tort Claims Act. She recently tried a complex multimillion-dollar medical malpractice suit against the Department of the Army.
With experience on both the enforcement and defense sides of litigation, Anica offers clients a valuable perspective on risk assessment, dispute resolution, and trial strategy. She works closely with clients to understand their business objectives, develop practical solutions, and position them for favorable outcomes both inside and outside the courtroom.
