Overview

Joe Arand employs more than 20 years of industry experience in his work in patent prosecution, strategic counseling, and intellectual property litigation, providing clients with full-service counsel aimed at protecting and maximizing the value of IP portfolios. His work includes stints at private law firms, tech companies, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), all informing a broad and deep understanding of the IP landscape.

Joe has drafted and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications in mechanical, electrical, chemical and software industries. His technical experience includes innovations in artificial intelligence systems, satellite technologies, medical devices and implants, surgical methods, high-pressure fluid processing, vehicular systems, audio and video electronics, batteries and fuel cells, building systems and materials, food compositions, chemical bioreactors, optics, software monitoring tools and mathematical modeling.

With substantial experience developing and executing global intellectual property strategies, Joe understands the unique challenges presented to clients of all sizes. Besides traditional patent prosecution work, he advises on portfolio acquisitions, conducts due diligence analyses, and provides patentability, validity, noninfringement and freedom-to-operate opinions.

Joe also maintains an active litigation practice, representing clients in federal district courts in matters involving patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, false advertising, antitrust and unfair competition. He regularly appears before the USPTO in proceedings challenging or defending patent validity, providing integrated counsel in both litigation and administrative venues.
