Overview

Jonathan Smith represents clients in commercial and financial services litigation with a specific focus on matters related to mortgage lending, real estate, and creditors’ rights. He also represents clients from the auto finance and insurance industries.

With a decade of experience with Texas’ unique homestead and property rights regimes, Jonathan is adept at navigating lending, servicing, title, and collections matters in state and federal courts. This includes defending claims brought under the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, Texas Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Truth In Lending Act, and Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, as well as complaints filed with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and analogous state entities.

While his work focuses on resolving matters before trial, Jonathan has also represented clients in non-jury and jury trials.

During law school, Jonathan externed with the American Civil Liberties Union of Arkansas, where he gained experience addressing a broad range of constitutional issues.
