Spencer Fane is pleased to recognize a multidisciplinary legal team comprising of attorneys Wale Akinmoladun, Allison Tanner, Gavri Schreiber, David Schatz, Pat McInerney, Ravi Sundara, and Crystal Howard, along with paralegals Sarah Estlund and Sheri N. Tassoni, for their support of a landmark outcome that will help Ronald McDonald House Kansas City (RMHKC) significantly expand its ability to serve families with children receiving medical treatment.
For nearly four years, the team assisted RMHKC and its Board of Directors to address the crucial need for additional family housing on RMHKC’s campus. This work included evaluating potential solutions and collaborating with the City of Kansas City, Missouri, on a proposed ordinance and first-of-its-kind ballot question that passed with overwhelming voter approval in April 2025. The successful ballot question paved the way for RMHKC to purchase park land for future expansion of its Longfellow House.
“This is the result of many dedicated community leaders, advocates, board and advisory board members, and other passionate professionals who shared a common goal: creating more space and resources for families within and beyond our community,” shared Tami Greenberg, CEO of RMHKC. “Our organization is so thrilled that, because of these efforts, we are one step closer to helping more families stay together during some of the most challenging moments of their lives.”
The Spencer Fane team focused on matters involving real estate transactions, nonprofit governance, campaign finance, municipal RFP response, and construction contracts to help fuel RMHKC’s August 6, 2026, purchase and closing. RMHKC’s acquisition supports the nonprofit’s long-term vision to expand its facilities and serve more families and reflects the firm’s commitment to supporting organizations that strengthen communities.
RMHKC serves families with critically ill and injured children, helping keep them close to one another and the medical care they need in an environment that promotes healing, love, and compassion. Last year, RMHKC served nearly 5,000 families across its 94 bedrooms, including a 10-bedroom House Inside Children’s Mercy Hospital, three Houses located across the street from Children’s Mercy, and four bedrooms inside Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
