Spencer Fane is pleased to announce R. Harold “Hal” McCard, Jr. and Sara Naylor have joined the firm’s Nashville office. McCard will be Of Counsel in the Health Care Practice Group, while Naylor is a Litigation and Dispute Resolution associate.

“Both of these attorneys bring unique and varied experience to Spencer Fane that will aid them in building strong private practices,” said Charles Robert Bone, Office Managing Partner for Spencer Fane in Nashville. “Our firm remains committed to bringing in talented, diverse attorneys at all stages of their legal career and providing them with the collaborative environment to promote their growth as attorneys. They will be a great fit for our unique culture and strengthen our approach to collaborative, efficient client service.”

For over two decades, McCard has served in corporate legal roles with a proven track record of designing effective legal solutions with a client-centered approach for nonprofit and for-profit health systems, physician group practices and ancillary/allied health care providers. This includes a relentless focus on providing guidance that enables executives and board members to make sound decisions on issues ranging from corporate governance to risk mitigation to strategic legal operations and mergers and acquisitions.

Most recently, McCard served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary for a $1.2 billion publicly traded healthcare enterprise. He previously served as Vice President and Deputy General Counsel-Operations for one of the nation’s leading publicly traded health systems.

McCard’s prior experience in private practice included creating, launching and expanding a health care practice to create a national presence for a law firm with a client base including physician groups, ambulatory surgery centers and for-profit and nonprofit health systems. McCard completed his undergraduate studies at Princeton University and earned his Juris Doctor from Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law.

Naylor will focus her practice on a wide range of litigation matters.

Most recently, Naylor served as a law clerk at the Tennessee Supreme Court for Justice Jeffrey S. Bivins. During this time, she gained valuable experience in all aspects of the legal process and spent time researching case law and drafting opinions, which included matters involving attorney discipline, health care liability, the Tennessee Rules of Evidence and constitutional law.

In addition, Naylor has spent time as a law clerk at the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals, the Office of the District Attorney for the 20th Judicial District in Nashville and the Office of the United States Attorney and Federal Public Defender for the Middle District of Tennessee.

Naylor previously spent time in education after completing her undergraduate studies at the University of Georgia and obtaining a master’s degree in education at Lipscomb University. She later earned her Juris Doctor from the Belmont University College of Law.
