Spencer Fane Grows New Houston Office with Addition of 2 Partners

November 18, 2019

Spencer Fane LLP is pleased to announce the addition of two partners to the firm’s newly established Houston office. Davis Bradford and Fred Johnson will both be a part of the firm’s Litigation practice group.

Spencer Fane opened its office in Houston on Aug. 1 when a group of attorneys from Zimmerman, Axelrad, Stern & Wise, P.C. joined the firm. There are currently 20 attorneys in the Houston office.

“We are excited to increase our capacity for handling client needs in this region and continue to grow our presence in the market,” said Pat Whalen, managing partner for Spencer Fane. “Our intention with this office is to continue to position the attorneys with the resources needed to provide the high levels of legal service our clients have come to expect from Spencer Fane.”

Bradford is an experienced trial attorney who helps clients resolve difficult business disputes using litigation, arbitration, negotiation or more informal means.

Having advocated for clients in federal courts, numerous state courts, and international and local arbitrations, he has handled and successfully tried multimillion-dollar, complex cases involving multiple parties, intricate procedural histories, and numerous witnesses and documents, as well as smaller disputes involving fewer parties and streamlined discovery. He also counsels and represents clients in matters related to breach of contract, oil and gas disputes, real estate disputes, construction disputes, employment agreements, trade secrets, non-compete agreements, partnerships, government investigations, insurance coverage, landlord-tenant issues, liens, open records requests, fraud, injunctive relief, and business disparagement among others.

Bradford completed his undergraduate studies at Louisiana Tech University before earning his Juris Doctor from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law.

Johnson is a trial attorney with more than 27 years of experience litigating and trying cases to juries, judges and arbitrators. He has served as first chair trial attorney in more than 25 jury and bench trials, as lead counsel in contested matters seeking injunctive relief, and in arbitrations and mediations, and has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in a wide range of matters.

Having spent most of his career litigating commercial cases involving businesses and individuals, Johnson has significant experience handling cases involving fiduciary duties, employment contracts, trade secrets and non-compete agreements. He has handled and tried cases involving the construction industry, manufacturing, employment discrimination and wrongful termination, EEOC and OSHA investigations, legal malpractice, insurance coverage disputes, trust agreements, products liability, and more.

Johnson completed his undergraduate studies at Stephen F. Austin State University. He earned his Juris Doctor at South Texas College of Law.

With the addition of offices in Houston, Minneapolis and Tampa this year, Spencer Fane operates 18 offices throughout the nation. The growth of the firm’s geographic footprint and service offerings is driven by a long-standing strategy to continually align resources with the evolving needs of its client base.
