Spencer Fane attorney Shawn Tuma was featured on the September 12 episode of Down the Security Rabbithole (DtSR). A frequent guest of the podcast, Shawn returned to commence his new quarterly DtSR segment.
DtSR is a work-safe podcast hosted by Rafal Los and James Jardine that provides an entertaining and educational perspective on the cybersecurity industry. Shawn joined WTW’s Sean Scranton to discuss White Castle’s multibillion-dollar biometrics lawsuit, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)’s new data breach disclosure regulations, and recent cyber insurance trends.
“As we’ve seen some of our ransomware cases go down, we’ve seen our business email compromise and social engineering cases go up … We see more policy denials because of that than we see from anything else,” Shawn said. “Policies are getting more nuanced in describing what’s covered, what’s not, and what controls must be in place from a social engineering standpoint before they even invoke coverage.”
At Spencer Fane, Shawn helps businesses protect their information and protect themselves from their information. He represents a wide range of clients, from small to midsize companies to Fortune 100 companies, across the U.S. and globally in dealing with cybersecurity, data privacy, data breach and incident response, regulatory compliance, computer fraud-related legal issues, and cyber-related litigation.
