Spencer Fane Chair Pat Whalen recently spoke with Law360 reporter Emma Cueto about the areas of law he foresees being most in demand in 2023.
The article, Where Mid-Law Is Expecting Work In 2023, described predictions of an economic downturn and outlined why midsize law firms such as Spencer Fane “expect to see fewer negative effects than their BigLaw counterparts.” Pat highlighted the pandemic’s impact on the legal industry and joined other law firm leaders in predicting that litigation work will continue to rise.
“Our litigation teams have been busy in 2022 as the worst of the pandemic fades into the rearview,” said Pat. “We expect that to continue into 2023, especially in the financial services, health care, and technology sectors.”
Under Pat’s direction, Spencer Fane has maintained this ability to identify and prioritize client needs. Pat attributes the firm’s accelerated development – which prompted the Kansas City Business Journal to name it one of the nation’s fastest-growing firms – to that client focus.
