Matthew Wine Explains Kansas City’s New Affordable Housing Ordinance in Kansas City Business Journal

May 14, 2021

Spencer Fane attorney Matthew Wine was recently featured in a Kansas City Business Journal article discussing the new KC affordable housing ordinance and developer incentives.

Titled “Multifamily plans skyrocket ahead of KC’s new affordable housing ordinance,” the article outlines the abundance of developer applications to construct multifamily projects. Matthew highlights the legal components, including how the city may respond to the development requests in terms of providing incentives while remaining cost effective.

“It’s ensuring that the ordinance is applied with enough flexibility that when a given project is presented to the city, the city and developer work in a symbiotic public-private partnership to ensure that incentives can support a project if it’s needed and still provide the beneficial housing that the ordinance intend,” Matthew explained in the article.
