Spencer Fane LLP is pleased to announce The December 5th Fund as the recipient of the firm’s 2026-2028 charitable grant program in St. Louis.
As part of its charitable grant program, Spencer Fane will donate $50,000, paid in installments over the next three years, to The December 5th Fund to support its mission of providing a stress-free, memorable day for families affected by metastatic cancer.
Founded in 2016, the organization is devoted to easing the burdens of family members facing cancer by offering a moment of normalcy, cherished memories, compassionate help, and a good day. The December 5th Fund has two programs: Great Day Program and Helping Hands Support Plan. The Great Day program designs a custom experience for the family based on their needs. While they are out spending time together, the organization’s volunteers prepare a thoughtful surprise for their return, which may include updated landscaping, an organized house, or other household chores completed. The Helping Hands Support Plan provides families with three or six months of continuous care during cancer treatment, including meal prep services, laundry, housecleaning, lawn care, and child care.
“Knowing a respected company like Spencer Fane believes in our mission lifts our team and shows the families we serve that their community stands with them,” said Tom Wiley, executive director at The December 5th Fund. “This grant will bring more moments of joy and relief to families during one of the hardest seasons of their lives, helping us give them a great day to breathe and ongoing support that lightens their daily burden.”
The organization’s goal is to connect with more families throughout the St. Louis area and beyond, offering hope and support to those impacted by cancer. The group is also working to inspire more volunteers and build partnerships with businesses that share its dedication in making a difference.
“We are delighted to support The December 5th Fund and the meaningful work it does to bring comfort to families when they need it most,” said Amy Mistler, St. Louis office managing partner at Spencer Fane. “Our firm remains committed to giving back to the communities we serve, and we look forward to partnering with this organization whose volunteers work diligently to make a lasting impact in each family’s life.”
The Spencer Fane Charitable Giving Program provides significant support to select local nonprofit organizations through a $50,000 donation over three years. The program is designed as a rotation so that one new recipient enters the program each year, with another exiting upon completion of its three-year cycle. Current and past recipients in St. Louis include Boys Hope Girls Hope of St. Louis, Duo Dogs, Inc. and Epworth Children and Family Services.
The program’s primary goal is to encourage long-standing relationships with nonprofit organizations and provide Spencer Fane employees with additional opportunities to become involved with the firm’s charitable causes.
