Spencer Fane attorney Kersten Holzhueter was recently recognized as a 2024 Legal Champion by Missouri Lawyers Media (MLM) for her trailblazing victory for a mortgage loan servicer in a COVID-19-related case.
Per MLM, the award honors defense lawyers who achieved successful outcomes in cases where an important principle or policy was at stake. Kersten’s recent victory was a win for her client and created strong precedent for mortgage companies defending claims related to COVID mortgage servicing issues as well as credit reporting in broader contexts.
At Spencer Fane, Kersten co-leads the firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Group. As a full-service litigator for financial services companies, she defends a wide range of claims, including class actions. These cases typically relate to consumer protection statutes, credit reporting, deposit account terms and conditions, bank fees, loan agreements, guaranties, forged and altered items, and defaulted municipal bonds.
Kersten was formally recognized alongside fellow Spencer Fane MLM honorees Jessica Merrigan and Leslie Greathouse at a February 15 awards ceremony at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis. Spencer Fane was notably the only firm with more than two honorees.
