Before pursuing a legal career, Kerry played baseball collegiately at Texas Tech University and professionally for two seasons in the Houston Astros minor league system. He completed his undergraduate studies at Texas Tech and later earned his Juris Doctor from Regent University School of Law before completing a clerkship for the Hon. James A. Teilborg of the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona.
