Spencer Fane attorney and firm General Counsel Leslie Greathouse has been named to Ingram’s 2024 Class of Women Executives Kansas City (WeKC). This honor recognizes “high-achieving” women who hold professional leadership roles. Leslie and her fellow WeKC honorees were featured in the June 2024 issue of Ingram’s Magazine.
WeKC recognizes women in the Kansas City area for their leadership, accomplishments, dedication to inspiring others, and contributions to their organizations. Honorees in the 2024 issue discuss the challenges of talent acquisition, generational differences in the workplace, career development, the impact of rapidly advancing technology, shifting worker preferences on workplace locations, and the need for flexible workplace design to accommodate those employees.
In her profile, Leslie looked back on a discriminatory moment at a deposition that highlights the changes in both the legal profession and Greathouse’s attitude over the past three decades.
“I’ve had jurors comment on my legs,” she shared. “Because my name is Leslie, and it’s a name that can go either way, people would assume I was a guy.” And then there was the deposition she showed up for where the opposing counsel asked her to fetch coffee. “I made his coffee, put it in front of him, and sat down at the table. He nearly choked on that coffee, and I’m pretty sure he spent the first hour thinking about how he screwed that up.”
At Spencer Fane, Leslie helps businesses accused of violating laws maneuver the labyrinth of complex litigation by representing them in state and federal courts and in arbitration and mediation proceedings. Whether she is advising clients on risk avoidance, counseling them on an insurance matter, addressing their business needs within current legal and regulatory constructs, or using her skills as a trained mediator, Leslie is at her best when she is helping a client resolve a problem or challenge facing their business.
In serving as General Counsel at Spencer Fane, Leslie also has the experience of walking in her clients’ shoes and leverages that unique perspective and understanding when advising individuals and businesses on a range of matters.
