Christine Chasse Talks Medical Malpractice on Medical Manners Podcast

December 16, 2024

Spencer Fane attorney Christine Chasse was the featured guest on a recent episode of the Medical Manners podcast, a resource for health care providers looking to improve their practices through communication and bedside manner.

In her conversation with host Katie Wyatt FNP-C – a colleague from Christine’s former career as a Registered Nurse – she discussed common reasons medical malpractice lawsuits occur. She also shared advice physicians, nurses, and other providers can use to minimize risk and liability, such as improving communication with patients.

“So many [medical] lawsuits, it really isn’t about money,” Christine shared of her experience. “A lot of it’s like ‘you made me mad. I feel disrespected,’ or ‘I have questions and this is the only way I’m going to get [answers] because now you guys won’t tell me anything … I’ll get a lawyer.’ A lot of times, it wasn’t really malice. It wasn’t negligence. [The care team] could’ve communicated better.’”

At Spencer Fane, Christine collaborates with small and large institutions in industries such as health care, finance, and education. She utilizes her extensive front-line health care experience to assess and successfully resolve professional liability claims for hospital systems, physicians, nurses, and other providers. Christine also guides her clients with regulatory and compliance enforcement actions and advises on technological issues, including cybersecurity, data privacy, artificial intelligence, and cyber incident response matters.
