Spencer Fane attorney Casey Murray lent his legal insights to the Kansas City Business Journal (KCBJ) article, KC Attorney: As Fight Continues Over Missouri Sick Leave, Businesses Should Prepare.
Casey continued his thought leadership on the contentious Proposition A, which aims to expand the availability of paid sick leave benefits to Missouri workers. Though the measure was approved in the November 2024 election and upheld by the Missouri Supreme Court, the state’s Senate has repealed the paid sick leave law since Casey’s conversation with KCBJ reporter James Dornbrook. Nevertheless, his comments emphasize the ongoing agility Missouri businesses must have in a rapidly evolving labor and employment landscape.
“You have to meet the minimum standard required under the law. If you’re an employer who is already offering more than that, then you’re covered,” he said.
At Spencer Fane, Casey helps employers manage difficult situations with their current and former employees. In this capacity, he defends employers in discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims, and provides guidance and counsel to clients dealing with challenging employment issues, such as terminations or discipline. He also regularly provides guidance for employers on FMLA, ADA, and other leave/accommodation laws.
