Spencer Fane attorney Caleb Rush was selected as speaker for York University (YU)’s 2024 Winter Commencement ceremony on December 12 in York, Nebraska.
Caleb, a YU class of 2010 alum who graduated summa cum laude, was proud to return to the community in which he was so active. During his time as a student, he participated in the men’s soccer team, concert choir, campus ministries, and Sigma Tau social club, in addition to earning two NAIA conference male Scholar-Athlete of the Year recognitions and an NAIA Champions of Character distinction.
During his inspiring speech, Caleb discussed the significance of designing one’s legacy and emphasized the importance of setting goals, surrounding yourself with people who foster your development, and investing in yourself. He explained intentionality is a crucial component of this process.
“You have to be intentional. You have to be intentional about your purpose, you have to be intentional about your communications, [and] through your relationships,” he said. “Being intentional is a part of how you can define and design your legacy. I’m fortunate to work now as an attorney. I work for a law firm: Spencer Fane. There’s a lot of law firms out there, and I’ve had the opportunity to go elsewhere and work in other places. I think that’s true of people here at York University as well. There’s a benefit to choosing the people [in your life] and place where you work.”
“Define your legacy, design your legacy, and go conquer the world,” he concluded.
At Spencer Fane, Caleb guides lenders and borrowers through the structuring, documentation, and negotiation of various financial transactions. His practice involves a broad range of projects, like construction, builder finance, hotel development, floor plan financing, residential and retail developments, and various types of collateral.
