March 21, 2024

Spencer Fane attorney, the Hon. Alvin Zimmerman, received the 2024 Outstanding 50 Year Lawyer Award from the Texas Bar Foundation. The award recognizes attorneys who, according to the foundation, “adhere to the highest principles and traditions of the legal profession and service to the public,” in addition to being engaged in the practice of law for at least 50 years.

In his long-standing practice, Alvin is still actively involved in family law, including trials, custody, and marital agreements. He serves as a mediator and arbitrator with extensive alternative dispute resolution experience across diverse industries and is one of fewer than 100 Texas-based credentialed distinguished mediators by the Texas Mediator Credentialing Association. Impressively, he has participated in over 500 arbitrations and 3,000 mediations. Alvin’s broad legal career boasts deserved notoriety across numerous ranking systems, with some of his annual awards spanning decades.

Alvin serves as a special judge for hire, special master, and ad litem and conducts investigations for educational institutions. His legal experience also includes presiding as a municipal court judge for the city of Houston and as a state district judge of the 269th (civil) and 309th (family) District Courts. He has served as Assistant Attorney General for the state of Texas and as a briefing clerk for the Hon. Judge Ingraham, Federal District Judge for the Southern District of Texas.

Alvin will be formally recognized at the 2024 Texas Bar Foundation Annual Dinner at the Hilton Anatole Dallas on June 21, 2024. You can learn more about the award and view past recipients here.
