Spencer Fane LLP is pleased to announce Bill Hopkins has been named the Office Managing Partner for the firm’s Austin office. He joined the Health Care practice group as a partner in January 2021.

In addition to this new role, Hopkins recently earned an appointment to the Spencer Fane Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee, which collaborates with other firm leadership on DEI-related initiatives and programming.

“Bill continues to make a notable and significant impact on our firm’s culture, and we have been impressed with his initiative and leadership during his time at Spencer Fane,” Spencer Fane Chair Patrick J. Whalen said. “We look forward to his continued contributions in further enhancing our firm’s culture and values while maintaining our focus on collaborative and responsive client service.”

In his private practice, Hopkins serves health care clients as an advocate and adviser in administrative law, regulatory defense, compliance, and litigation. He advises both individual health care providers and institutional healthcare clients on state licensure, federal certifications, compliance, and enforcement matters, emphasizing proactive legal services aimed at maintaining compliance and minimizing potential legal exposure. Hopkins handles all aspects of health care professional and facility licensure, regulation and enforcement; medical staff and credentialing issues, fraud and abuse; and compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies’ rules.

In addition to his legal work, Hopkins is a prolific thought leader and has been actively involved in the American Bar Association Health Law Section as well as American Health Law Association and has served in a number of leadership roles in both organizations. In Texas, he is actively involved in both the Houston Bar and Austin Bar Health Law Sections. He completed his undergraduate studies at High Point University and earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Texas School of Law.

As an advocate for DEI and a leader in the community, Hopkins actively pushes for change in the legal industry through his involvement professionally and personally. He has worked with the Texas Diversity Council since 2005, is a member of the Central Texas Advisory Chapter of the Texas Diversity Council, and currently serves as the President of the Central Texas Advisory Chapter.

Hopkins is often an invited speaker at numerous DEI events and has received several awards, including the Texas Diversity Council Diversity Champion Award and the American Bar Association Health Law Section Champion of Diversity and Inclusion Award. He is also involved in several nonprofit organizations and mentoring initiatives in the Texas community.
