Spencer Fane is pleased to announce attorney Jay Ji as one of St. Louis Business Journal’s 12 individual 2026 Champions for Diversity & Inclusion honorees. As part of this recognition, Jay was highlighted in the feature article, Spencer Fane Partner Balances M&A Practice with Role Shaping Firm Inclusion Efforts.
In his profile, Jay discussed the drivers behind his inclusive-focused efforts, the importance of understanding that DEI work is not a “zero-sum game” where certain groups lose, and personal hobbies. He also shared his twofold proudest career accomplishment: rising to the partner level at the firm and joining the DEI Committee.
“The promotion to partner at Spencer Fane was a signal by the firm and my colleagues of the trust it has in me – not just in my legal skill, but in my judgment, character, and ability to represent the institution itself,” he said. “Being appointed to the firm’s DEI committee carries a different but equally meaningful kind of pride … trust in my voice and perspective on something I care deeply about – building a firm culture where everyone has the opportunity to succeed. It’s a role I didn’t seek out for recognition; it came from being invited to contribute to work I believe in and being asked to help shape how the firm approaches inclusion going forward.”
At Spencer Fane, Jay helps clients navigate complex legal and regulatory issues as part of the firm’s Corporate and Business Transactions practice group. Focused on mergers and acquisitions, distressed sales, private securities offerings, and other commercial transactions, he helps organizations meet the increasing demands of today’s business environment.
In addition, Jay joined the firm’s DEI Committee in September 2025. Since this this appointment, Jay has collaborated with other Spencer Fane leaders to enhance inclusivity and belonging as part of the firm’s dynamic culture. He helps to provide educational opportunities for all attorneys and professional staff, measure and monitor each success and challenge, invest in formal and informal mentorship, and provide financial support with a dedicated budget.
