February 23, 2026

Spencer Fane LLP is pleased to welcome Hans Riede to the firm’s Washington, D.C., office as a partner in the Labor and Employment and Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Groups.

Hans counsels corporations, business executives, law firms, AmLaw 100 attorneys, doctors, and sports professionals on a wide variety of employment disputes, providing detailed analyses of all potential risks and opportunities should clients choose to pursue litigation, including high-stakes bet-the-company litigation, or alternative dispute resolution.

Combining business, financial, and legal insights with a strong track record in the courtroom, Hans’ trial experience has spanned trade secrets and defamation cases, class actions and collective actions, noncompete agreements and executive compensation contracts, shareholder derivative lawsuits, and general employment litigation.

Hans also provides guidance on how to prevent litigation when potential risks or costs exceed desired outcomes. His preference for financial safeguarding is supported by his role as a testifying attorneys’ fees expert, in which he reviews and provides an opinion on legal fees, billing practices, and fee agreements in contested cases to ensure reasonableness and accuracy.

“We have already set the stage for strategic growth in D.C. in 2026 and look forward to continued expansion in several key industries,” said Bill Powers, office managing partner for Spencer Fane in Washington, D.C. “Hans brings an impressive track record of success as a litigator as well as a keen ability to determine when disputes are best resolved out of the courtroom, resulting in a balanced skill set and rationale that will undoubtedly support our clients’ needs in D.C., Virginia, and nationwide.”

Hans completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Virginia, then earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Richmond School of Law.

A recognized industry thought leader, Hans is frequently quoted in leading legal, business, and trade publications, including Law360, Washington Business Journal, and HR Executive. He has also been distinguished numerous times for his successful work in both employment litigation and alternative dispute resolution.
