Ray Jones develops a full understanding of a client’s company, market, innovations, and competitors to develop defensive and enforcement strategies, leading to a course of action that protects and maximizes the value of the intellectual property assets.

With a broad practice and more than 25 years of experience, Ray focuses on patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret, and other intellectual property litigation. He regularly handles all phases of dispute resolution regardless of legal venue, ranging from pre-suit investigations through patent appeals.

Significantly, Ray brings an educational and practical background in aerospace engineering, beneficial to collaborative legal services provided to the firm’s clients operating within or adjacent to this industry. His proficiencies include aircraft and UAV structural design, aircraft and UAV control systems, aircraft manufacturing, weapons systems, and sensors. He also previously worked with computer components, software systems, software development and programming, information systems, cyber systems including cloud-based systems, cybersecurity, endpoint security, authentication schemes for network access of mobile devices, cyber threat detection, and encryption / decryption processes.

In addition to his IP litigation practice, Ray represents clients in patent prosecution and inter partes review (IPR) procedures before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. He brings a breadth of knowledge related to intellectual property and technology law, including mergers and acquisitions, government contracts and bid protests, IP licensing, and company / IP valuations. This assists him in the development and management of international and domestic intellectual property portfolios involving patents, trademarks, and trade secrets to protect research and development investments and commercial products while advising on freedom-to-operate matters, which include providing validity and noninfringement opinions and conducting competitor portfolio analyses.

A former U.S. Navy Commander and U.S. Naval Academy graduate, Ray has counseled numerous startups and established companies focused on the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC), on matters including due diligence for M&A transactions, IP protection strategies under Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation (DFAR) government regulations, and technology or marketplace differentiation analyses.
