Spencer Fane LLP is pleased to announce Scott Woody has joined the firm’s Phoenix office as an associate in the Tax, Trusts, & Estates Practice Group.
Woody focuses his practice on tax planning at the state and local levels, while also handling tax controversies and any associated litigation. He also brings valuable experience in contract preparation and analysis, Tribal taxation, and matters and regulatory challenges related to federal and state agencies. This can often involve assisting clients with effectively structuring business transactions and arranging personal financial affairs to minimize, defer, or eliminate tax obligations that align with a client’s specific objectives.
“Long-term estate planning as well as the ownership, transfer, and taxation of personal wealth have become increasingly important to our clients,” said Jeff Figge, Tax, Trusts, & Estates Co-Practice Group Leader. “We continue to seek out measured growth that aligns with this need and have the resources to guide clients through a full spectrum of options, whether for closely held private businesses, corporations, executives, entrepreneurs, families, or individuals. Scott will help us maintain our differentiating personal touch while helping with often-difficult decisions.”
Woody completed his undergraduate studies at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology and earned his Master’s in accounting and his Juris Doctor at the University of New Mexico. He recently obtained an L.L.M. in taxation from New York University.
While in law school, Woody interned at a national investment firm, informing his knowledge of business law and transactions, and with the University of New Mexico School of Law Clinical Program, assisting low-income taxpayers with cases under examination, in collection, or on appeal. He is also an active participant with the ABA Tax Section, regularly participating in the Law Student Tax Challenge.
