Spencer Fane attorneys Jamie Cotter and Jon Watson recently spoke at the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC)’s “Confessions of Outside Counsel” event series.
Jamie co-presented the “Confessions of an Outside Counsel: To Collect or Not to Collect, That is the Question” session with Jessica Reardon of Portfolio Recovery Associates. Jon moderated the discussion, which focused on the pros and cons of engaging in collection efforts on unpaid accounts.
The panelists also discussed the rules that apply to “debt collectors” under Colorado and federal law and provided a practical roadmap for general counsel to use in making the business decision of whether and how to pursue collections.
Earlier this year, Jon moderated another session of the “Confessions of an Outside Counsel” series that focused on internal investigations. Attorneys Helen Holden and Elizabeth Wente shared tips and strategies for successful investigations and other ethical concerns.
