September 26, 2023

Spencer Fane LLP is pleased to announce Jeffrey Phillips joined the Intellectual Property practice group as a partner in the firm’s Houston office. The IP team continues an intentional growth trend designed to meet clients’ increasing needs in this area; the firm has now added five IP attorneys in this market since late May.

“Spencer Fane continues to actively seek out opportunities to bolster our Intellectual Property team throughout the firm’s footprint,” said Erick Robinson, a Houston partner and Intellectual Property Practice Group Co-Chair at Spencer Fane. “We have been fortunate to identify talented attorneys like Jeff and continue to reinforce our position as a national leader for this in-demand area of law.”

Jeff has an extensive litigation record in patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, antitrust, and false advertising cases, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in jurisdictions nationwide.  Jeff also brings over 20 years of experience in patent prosecution, portfolio development, and management for his clients, which range from individual inventors, entrepreneurs, and startups to large Fortune 100 companies with robust IP portfolios. He also counsels clients on important strategic business endeavors, including R&D guidance, technology licensing and transfer, product clearance, and IP due diligence for corporate mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.

Prior to beginning his law career, Phillips held many technical and project management positions for a multinational oil and gas corporation, providing worldwide technology, operations, and project support within the refining and petrochemical business groups. His unique experience aligns with the firm’s focus on recruiting and hiring attorneys with practical industry experience beneficial to clients.

Phillips completed his undergraduate studies in chemical engineering at the University of Texas before earning his Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center.
