Spencer Fane was honored to serve as one of the presenting sponsors for Art That Blows, an annual fundraiser hosted by the firm’s charitable grant partner, Band of Angels. Staff member Evangelina Cantu represented the firm as a volunteer at the July 14 event in Kansas City.
Attendees gathered at The Abbott KC for a delightful night of music, drinks, food trucks, photo ops, and the opportunity to bid on one-of-a-kind art pieces donated by local artists. From golden feathered eagles made from brass instruments to a replica of Kansas City’s Western Auto sign featuring piano wire, each piece breathed new life into unplayable instruments. Evangelina was pleased to successfully bid on a violin-centric, mixed-media work created by Hallmark artist Dana Swedo Bernal.
All proceeds from the silent auction and event helped fund summer music camp scholarships for students in need.
Band of Angels is a nonprofit devoted to providing instruments, scholarships, and support to Kansas City metro children who aim to succeed in music. Founded in 2010 as a not-for-profit partnership between WDAF-TV Fox 4 and Meyer Music, Band of Angels has already collected and recycled thousands of instruments and helped students, directors, and schools from over 60 area school districts.
