Spencer Fane Hosts Second Annual Celebration for Juneteenth

July 12, 2023

Spencer Fane was thrilled to welcome special guest Chief John Drake of the Nashville Metro Police Department for the firm’s second annual Juneteenth celebration on June 21.

Chief Drake had a candid conversation with Spencer Fane attorney and DEI Committee Chair James Crumlin. In addition to discussing recent political events and how he has risen above challenges such as media and racial tension, he shared how his desire to see people like himself in law enforcement inspired his career path. He also detailed his passion for mentoring youth through the Nashville Police Activities League’s basketball program, which he grew from 100 to 1,300 participants in less than five years.

Chief Drake began his law enforcement career in 1988 and was appointed the Interim Chief of the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department in August 2020. He later became the eighth Chief of Police for the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department in November 2020. Chief Drake earned his undergraduate degree in criminal justice from the College of Public Service at Bethel University.
