Spencer Fane was recently honored with the Organizational Diversity Award by the Arizona Black Bar (ABB) at the Hayzel B. Daniels Scholarship Gala. Spencer Fane Attorney Kami Hoskins accepted the award at the event held at The Archwood at Eastlake in Phoenix on November 14, 2025, also attended by Spencer Fane Attorney Chelsea Hesla.
According to the ABB, the award is presented to an organization “that demonstrates achievement and sustained commitment to diversity and inclusion in the legal profession for racially and ethnically diverse lawyers in Arizona.”
The honor was inspired by the Spencer Fane Phoenix office’s sustained efforts to maintain a diverse and inclusive culture, bolstered by Phoenix Office Managing Partner David Funkhouser, the dedicated work of the Spencer Fane DEI Committee, and the vast assortment of diversity-centered legal programming and events in Phoenix and beyond. The ABB also cited the continued growth of firmwide “Connect” groups designed to foster inclusive networks of diverse attorneys and staff, as well as the firm’s 2024 organizational redesign, which traded a traditional hierarchical law firm model for increased professional opportunities and parallel lines of accountability.
In addition to the firm’s acceptance of the Organizational Diversity Award, the ABB presented law student scholarships and individual awards to other honorees, including Arizona Supreme Court Justice Maria Elena Cruz and Arizona Court of Appeals Judge David Bruce Gass.
Formerly the Hayzel B. Daniels Bar Association, the ABB seeks to promote justice in Arizona legal communities and court systems while uplifting the positions and public perception of Black attorneys. Learn more about the ABB here and view the gala brochure here.
