Spencer Fane Elects 4 Attorneys to Partnership

January 11, 2021

Spencer Fane LLP is pleased to announce four attorneys have been elected partners, continuing the firm’s ongoing commitment to create pathways for internal advancement. The new partners include attorneys Mary Bacon (Las Vegas); Jessica Gale and Helen Holden (Phoenix); and Peter Riggs (Kansas City, Missouri).

The elections to the partnership were effective January 1, 2021.

“As we continue to focus on sustainable, client-centered growth, we recognize that our attorneys spend years developing a precise level of experience and business acumen that offers an exceptional value to our clients,” Spencer Fane Chair Patrick J. Whalen said. “It is this value that drives our firm to remain committed to fostering internal development opportunities that provide a clear path to partnership. Our new partners are terrific reflections of our firm’s culture, and have proven to be invaluable assets to their clients and colleagues.”

Showing sustained financial growth in recent years, Spencer Fane continues to strive for a nontraditional partner-to-associate ratio with an emphasis on providing services that meet the unique needs of all clients in the markets where they do business. The firm invests in attorneys with the intention of providing them with high-level work that fosters a culture of leadership and collaboration.

“The leadership at Spencer Fane stands out because of its clearly articulated vision for the future,” said Jessica Gale, who focuses her practice on commercial litigation. “The firm continues to be proactive as opposed to reactionary in designing a strategy that shapes not only how we provide legal services right now but also what the future model for law firms will look like. There are so many talented attorneys at Spencer Fane who are kind and display a mutual respect and desire to help others succeed.”

Mary Bacon added, “One of the most exciting aspects about being elected partner at Spencer Fane is that there is no glass ceiling. It is a meritocracy where humility, collaboration, and a fierce resolve to win are the most valued qualities. The firm provides an incredible sense of purpose, balance, and diversity that makes you feel connected to the work and the team. I could not be more excited to join the partnership.”

Spencer Fane continues to adapt the delivery of legal services to the needs of clients. This became especially important in the wake of the pandemic, and due to preparedness and a forward-thinking business model, the firm stood out as a leader in the legal industry while avoiding the majority of negative fallout related to business interruptions.

“Our talented people, combined with our culture of humility, collaboration, and collegiality, make Spencer Fane a truly exceptional place,” Peter Riggs said. “Particularly during this past year, which created unprecedented challenges for law firms, our people pulled together, adapted to a shifting service landscape, and delivered for our clients. I join the ranks of the partnership with great optimism for the future of this firm and cannot wait to see what lies ahead for us.”

Helen Holden added, “Spencer Fane has such a strong culture, highlighted by dedication to providing excellent client service and a commitment to core values like collaboration, humility, and empowerment. Our clients expect us to work with them to find timely solutions to legal problems, and the culture of collaboration here fosters that approach.”
