September 23, 2022

Spencer Fane attorney Shawn Tuma served as a moderator for a discussion on professional liability claims resulting from law firm data breach incidents at the Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Law Conference, hosted by the Center for American and International Law, on September 9 in Plano, Texas. Shawn also served as a co-chair of the sixth annual conference.

During the presentation, The Weakest Link? Legal Malpractice Exposure for Cybersecurity Incidents, the panel examined recent cases and emerging theories of liability; insurance coverage for these types of malpractice claims; and best practices for lawyers on minimizing the chance of such claims and how best to respond if they occur.

Shawn was joined by Jason R. Jobe, Thompson, Coe, Cousins & Irons; Professor Vincent R. Johnson, St. Mary’s University School of Law; and Joyván Malbon-Griffin, Minnesota Lawyers Mutual Insurance Company.

Presented by the Institute for Law and Technology, the conference brings together cybersecurity professionals from the region and around the country to provide advice and guidance to in-house and private practice attorneys on cybersecurity and data privacy legal issues.
