Shawn Tuma Delivers Opening Keynote at MES IT Security 2024

April 25, 2024

Spencer Fane attorney Shawn Tuma was the keynote speaker for the Midsize Enterprise Summit IT Security (MES IT Security) 2024, a conference hosted by The Channel Company, on March 18 in Indianapolis.

Shawn kicked off the two-day event with his presentation, A Breach QB Talks Real World Cyber Incidents and What You Really Need to Know. He educated attendees on complex cyber, legal, compliance, and regulatory issues and explained how organizations can develop and mature their cyber risk and response plans. Shawn also outlined common types of cyber incidents affecting businesses, the life cycle of a cyber-attack, and key response phases.

Shawn placed particular importance on the management of data. “[Regulators] don’t care about your company. They don’t care about the security of your network. They care about the data you have and, more importantly, the personal data you have,” he said. “That’s where you need to focus when you are building out your layer of defenses.”

At Spencer Fane, Shawn co-leads the firm’s Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice Group. He helps businesses protect their information and protect themselves from their information. Shawn is a frequently sought-after thought leader who represents a wide range of clients in dealing with cybersecurity, data privacy, data breach and incident response, regulatory compliance, computer fraud-related legal issues, and cyber-related litigation.
