Sandy Wirtel Awarded by NCJFCJ for Pro Bono Work

Spencer Fane attorney Sandy Wirtel, a member of the Jackson County Pro Bono Attorneys or “Pro Bonos” group, was recently selected for the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges (NCJFCJ)’s Impact of the Year Award.

The “Pro Bonos” group is made up of 13 legal professionals in the Jackson County, Missouri area. Sandy and the “Pro Bonos” were recognized collectively for their commitment to providing legal and support services in the family court system.

The Impact of the Year award honors those that have “been instrumental in leading or implementing significant improvements or innovations which advance the mission of the NCJFCJ.” The “Pro Bonos” accomplished that through representing children and families in the juvenile justice field using innovative approaches.

“This group of attorneys does an amazing job in working with clients who often are found to be in a challenging or crisis situation regarding their children,” Lori Stipp, Juvenile Officer for Jackson County Family Court said in the NCJFCJ’s press release. “These attorneys provide legal advocacy along with substantial emotional support for their clients while working through the reunification process with their children.”
