Loren Mulraine Debates at Copyright Society 2023 Midwinter Meeting

May 3, 2023

Spencer Fane attorney Loren Mulraine spoke at the Copyright Society 2023 Midwinter Meeting earlier this year in Mirage, California. His CLE session comprised a friendly debate between teams.

During the presentation, The Great Copyright Debate: North v. South, two teams of copyright lawyers – each with an American and one Canadian – debated the virtues and flaws of the two countries’ different approaches to copyright law. Topics included fair use vs. fair dealing, notice and takedown vs. notice and notice, and work for hire vs. work made in the course of employment.

Loren was joined by Barry Fong of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt; Nicolas Charest and Jay Kerr-Wilson of Fasken Martineau DuMoulin; and Erin Smith Dennis, Music Counsel at Google/YouTube.

At Spencer Fane, Loren merges an understanding of the creative elements of the entertainment and media industries with legal and business skills to protect his clients’ intellectual property, build their business enterprises, and advocate for social justice. His clients have included Grammy, Dove, and Stellar award winners, gold-, platinum-, and multiplatinum-selling artists, and professionals in the music, media, film/TV, theater, and sports industries.
