Spencer Fane attorney Kersten Holzhueter has been named to Ingram’s 2025 Class of Women Executives Kansas City (WeKC). This honor recognizes “high-achieving” women who hold professional leadership roles. Kersten and her fellow WeKC honorees were featured in the March 2025 issue of Ingram’s magazine.
WeKC recognizes women in the Kansas City area for their leadership, accomplishments, dedication to inspiring others, and contributions to their organizations. Honorees in the 2025 issue discuss the challenges of the current climate for both women in leadership and women-owned businesses.
In her profile, Kersten describes her background in accounting, and how that translates into an analytical approach in her legal work. She also highlights her thinking when her day-to-day is infused with an unexpected challenge.
“I must confess, the initial reaction is often stress about how we are going to sort through the issue,” she says. “But, then I flip a switch in my head and say, ‘challenge accepted.’ I come up with an initial game plan and then bring in my colleagues to brainstorm. I rely on my optimism to keep us motivated to tackle the challenge.”
Kersten also provided guidance to those just starting out in their careers in her conversation with Ingram’s.
“Be curious. Ask mentors how your day-to-day tasks factor into the broader business plan, how you can learn more about the organization and leadership opportunities, and how you can help make your mentors’ jobs easier. And, don’t be afraid to express interest in leadership opportunities even if it feels early. It can take time for the right opportunity to emerge. Which highlights the final piece of advice: Be patient.”
As a full-service litigator for financial services companies, Kersten defends a wide range of claims asserted against financial institutions, including class actions. These cases typically relate to consumer protection statutes, credit reporting, deposit account terms and conditions, bank fees, loan agreements, guaranties, forged and altered items, and defaulted municipal bonds.
