Spencer Fane partner Jon Farnsworth recently published an article in Utility Drive explaining the legal concerns with smart grids.
Titled “6 commonly misunderstood legal risks for smart grids,” the article outlines the complex nature of smart grids that can lead to legal problems. As Jon explains, smart grids offer a wide variety of benefits, including better gauging and meeting demand, reducing power plant costs, and having “real time” billing data to analyze.
“As more and more utilities move to smart grids, technology vendors are becoming more adept at providing “tried and true” technology solutions,” Jon explained in the article. “Nonetheless, significant problems can and will arise as utilities move to implement smart grids. Utilities can help minimize these issues with proper planning and counsel.”
