Spencer Fane is pleased to announce attorney Jessica Merrigan as the president-elect of the American College of Environmental Lawyers (ACOEL) for 2025-2026.
The ACOEL is an invitation-only professional association of distinguished environmental law practitioners. Peer-recognized as preeminent in the industry, ACOEL members strive to maintain and improve the ethics, administration of justice, and development of their legal field through rigorous focus, outreach, and education across federal, state, municipal, tribal, and international forums.
Jessie – who has served as an active Fellow of the College for several years and as Treasurer for the past two years – was elected to her new leadership role at the ACOEL’s Annual Meeting on September 19 in Boston. She also formally recognized outgoing President Tracy Hester at the ceremony.
At Spencer Fane, Jessie counsels clients on environmental matters regarding regulatory requirements and represents them in litigation of environmental claims, including contribution claims under the federal Superfund law. She has significant experience helping clients in administrative negotiations with both the EPA and state agencies; advises them on additional or equivalent state law requirements; and assists them with facility audits, compliance initiatives, and waste reduction programs. She has been recognized for her industry leadership by several renowned legal media outlets such as Chambers USA, Missouri Lawyers Media, Best Lawyers in America, the National Law Journal, and more.
