Jason Smith Discusses Benefits of Spencer Fane Springfield and National Presence

November 3, 2025

In an interview with The American Lawyer, Spencer Fane attorney Jason C. Smith highlighted how the firm’s national footprint provides a ‘win-win’ value proposition that serves markets of all sizes.

The publication’s article, Big Law Firms Say Springfield and Tupelo Are as Sweet as NYC and DC for Their Bottom Line, featured several legal leaders who opined on the advantage law firms gain by operating in smaller markets. As Office Managing Partner of the Spencer Fane Springfield office, Jason explained how the firm’s Midwest presence supports its strategy and client service.

“We are still very lucky and blessed to represent a number of major national companies that are headquartered in Springfield [and] that do business across the country and around the world,” Jason shared. “In order to adequately represent those clients and to do more of their work, we need access to higher levels of expertise in lots of different areas, and we need a national platform to do their national work. At the same time, it’s attractive to a firm like Spencer Fane to be able to operate in a lower-cost market like Springfield but still represent really outstanding companies and top-notch clients.”

In addition to his leadership role at Spencer Fane, Jason represents clients from individuals to Fortune 500 companies in business matters and litigation throughout the country. He has defended class action cases for clients such as retailers, banks, and universities. His litigation practice encompasses complex contract and tort claims in health care, retail, construction, banking, manufacturing, higher education, and other industries.
