Donn Herring Discusses New Challenges for Rural Health Care on AHLA Podcast

November 25, 2025

Spencer Fane attorney Donn Herring recently appeared on the American Health Law Association (AHLA)’s Speaking of Health Law.

One of multiple AHLA podcasts, Speaking of Health Law offers insightful analysis and commentary on current legal and policy challenges affecting the American health care system. In his episode, Donn – a member of the AHLA – conversed with two firm clients, Lori Wightman (CEO of Bothwell Regional Health Center) and Jon Doolittle (CEO of Missouri Hospital Association). The group discussed the current financial headwinds facing rural health care providers and how the One Big Beautiful Bill Act will affect this space through significant changes such as Medicaid cuts and the creation of new Rural Health Transformation Funds.

“Rural health care has been one of the key political talking points during the first part of 2025,” Donn said. “For the most part, that talk has taken place on a theoretical level. Lori, Jon, and I were excited to have the opportunity to provide some insight into the realities of rural health care and the impact of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act on rural health care from the perspective of the provider.”

At the firm, Donn helps hospitals, physicians, and other health care providers with a full range of business and regulatory issues. He focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions in the health care industry, which include physician-hospital joint ventures, physician integration, provider network development, HIPAA compliance program development, and voluntary compliance program development.
