April 11, 2023

Spencer Fane is pleased to announce that attorney DeAndrea Washington has been named among the Houston Business Journal’s (HBJ) 2023 Diversity in Business Award honorees.

This achievement recognizes DeAndrea as one of 36 Houston business leaders honored this year for showing exceptional commitment to promoting the practices that advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

DeAndrea was formally recognized at the HBJ’s 2023 Diversity in Business Awards luncheon on March 30 and featured in an HBJ special issue. In her profile, DeAndrea discussed the importance of diversity and inclusion, provided advice to business leaders looking to boost and sustain diversity in their organizations, and highlighted some of her accomplishments in the DEI space.

“Each life that is touched, each individual who is enlightened, each diverse lawyer who is included, embraced, and simply afforded the opportunities to succeed, makes this work abundantly rewarding,” DeAndrea said. “I am honored to be among those ‘leading the charge’ toward fostering legal representation that better aligns with the diverse voices and demographics of the communities we serve.”

At Spencer Fane, DeAndrea focuses her practice on a variety of labor and employment litigation matters. She provides preventive counsel and litigates employment disputes on behalf of public and private employers in federal and state courts, in arbitration, and before administrative agencies, such as the Texas Workforce Commission, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the United States Department of Labor.

DeAndrea also advocates for DEI in the legal field and is a respected voice in the firm’s leadership. She serves as a DEI advisor to the Spencer Fane Executive Committee and a member of the DEI Committee. She believes strongly in the advancement of women and minorities in the legal industry and uses her platform to improve the firm and the Houston business community.
