Spencer Fane attorney DeAndrea Washington has been recognized by the Houston Bar Association (HBA) as one of two individual recipients of its 2024 Diversity Awards, which are given to “outstanding law firms and individuals in recognition of their diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts within the legal profession.” DeAndrea was honored at the 2024 DEI Summer Associate Luncheon on June 10.
The HBA Diversity Awards were created in 2019 to recognize outstanding achievements and dedication by law offices, legal departments, and individuals in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession. Recipients are chosen by a committee made up of representatives from the HBA’s Gender Fairness Committee, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, and LGBTQ+ Committee.
The HBA is a nonprofit professional organization for attorneys that provides education and service programs for the legal profession and the community. With over 10,000 members, the HBA is one of the largest metropolitan bar associations in the nation.
At Spencer Fane, DeAndrea focuses her practice on a variety of labor and employment litigation matters. She provides preventive counsel and litigates employment disputes on behalf of public and private employers in federal and state courts, in arbitration, and before administrative agencies.
DeAndrea also advocates for DEI in the legal field and is a respected voice in the firm’s leadership. She serves on the Spencer Fane Executive and DEI Committees and advises on diversity, equity, and inclusivity impacting firm decisions and strategy at the highest level of the firm.
