Ayesha Mehdi Outlines No Surprises Act for Medicare-Focused Health Care Group

October 13, 2022

Spencer Fane attorney Ayesha Mehdi provided a private, in-person training for Valley Oaks Medical Group on September 14 on the No Surprises Act (NSA). The Act went into effect on January 1, 2022, but enforcement is delayed related to coordination with other providers until December 31, 2022.

During her presentation, No Surprise Act, Ayesha outlined one of the most impactful clauses of the NSA, which requires providers and facilities to provide a good faith estimate of charges to insured and self-pay patients. She also shared best practices for good faith estimates, as well as facility notice and consent for both in- and out-of-network providers.

At Spencer Fane, Ayesha works closely with physicians and other health care professionals, along with various health care and closely held businesses, in a wide range of corporate, transactional, regulatory, and licensure matters. Ayesha is currently the Chair of the American Bar Association Health Law Section’s Fraud and Compliance interest group.
