Spencer Fane attorney Ayesha Mehdi published an article in Health Care Quarterly focused on the medical spa industry as it recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Titled “Medical spas and compliance: Understand the legal risks,” the article discusses the key regulations medical spas need to follow to ensure they are in compliance with the laws for practicing medicine.
Discussing the changes COVID-19 brought to the industry, Ayesha noted, “For many med spas, this is a great opportunity to take a fresh look at the relationship with their physician leader, who is often designated as the ‘medical director.’” Ayesha went on to explain, “If this relationship is not structured properly, both the med spa and medical director could be at risk of violating laws that regulate the practice of medicine.”
Ayesha emphasized how each company should tailor their process based on their individual circumstance, noting the disciplinary actions if unlicensed entities perform any medical activity.
