Andrew Brought Discusses OSHA Heat Hazards Program in Business Insurance

April 28, 2022

Spencer Fane attorney Andrew Brought was recently featured in a Business Insurance article about the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) National Emphasis Program to conduct more heat-related workplace inspections and its ability to do so.

Titled “OSHA Heat Hazards Program Raises Enforcement Issues,” the article explores OSHA’s ability to carry out this initiative given the agency’s shortage of an estimated 800+ safety and compliance inspectors.

“OSHA’s enforcement mechanisms for heat dangers under the General Duty Clause will continue to be limited,” Andrew explains. “Heat-related inspections only account for 0.5% of all federal OSHA inspections and the agency’s emphasis program seeks only to increase this number by doubling that over the three-year period.”
