Funkhouser Named Office Managing Partner of Spencer Fane Phoenix

March 1, 2023

Spencer Fane LLP is pleased to announce David E. Funkhouser III has been named the new office managing partner for the firm’s Phoenix office, effective March 1. He succeeds partner Andrew Federhar, who has served in the role since the office’s 2017 opening.

“I’m honored to take ownership of this vital role and look forward to further advancing the firm’s vision and growth. Our firm not only established a Phoenix presence under Andy’s leadership but has also tripled in size since we opened our doors,” David said. “We are extremely grateful to Andy for his leadership in this way, and I look forward to continuing his good work of ensuring our firm is positioned to meet the evolving needs of our clients in the Southwest.”

A partner at the firm since 2018, David counsels clients in complex commercial litigation matters. He is a deeply trusted advisor to many of the nation’s largest consumer loan servicers, mortgage origination companies, and financial institutions, using a client-centric, results-oriented approach to each and every matter his clients entrust him with. David also routinely handles real estate disputes and contract litigation, as well as fiduciary, trust, and probate litigation. He has also defended clients in multiple class-action lawsuits across the country.

As David assumes responsibility for day-to-day operations of the Phoenix office, he will also help facilitate the firm’s continued expansion in the Arizona legal market. Since opening, Spencer Fane Phoenix has maintained a steady evolution fueled by the firm’s commitment to exceptional, client-centric service and thought leadership.

“As a firm, we have long appreciated David’s dedicated service to our clients, and he will undoubtedly continue to be a strong asset in the Phoenix office with his strong interpersonal and leadership skills,” Andy said.

In addition to his legal work, David is highly involved in the community. He has established himself as a civic leader, serving out the remainder of a term for a vacated seat in Arizona’s House of Representatives in 2008. He’s also a former president of the Maricopa County Bar Association, and currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors for Special Olympics Arizona. David is a graduate of Valley Leadership Class XXXII and is a previous Phoenix Business Journal 40 Under 40 honoree.
