Spencer Fane LLP is pleased to welcome Mark Grundvig to the firm’s Phoenix office as a partner in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Group. Having spent more than 25 years in the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Antitrust Division, Mark will also have a strong presence in the Washington, D.C., market.
Mark helps clients navigate complex antitrust, government enforcement, and regulatory matters, including antitrust investigations and litigation, white collar defense, corporate compliance, and congressional inquiries. He counsels companies and individuals across a wide range of industries on antitrust compliance, providing training, risk assessments, and practical guidance aligned with current enforcement priorities. He also identifies and addresses potential antitrust risks by conducting internal investigations and developing strategies to mitigate exposure across multiple jurisdictions.
During his time as Assistant Chief in the Washington Criminal II Section of the DOJ Antitrust Division, Mark was responsible for the oversight of investigations and prosecutions of criminal violations of federal laws relating to competition matters, such as price fixing, bid rigging, customer allocation, and fraud; supervision of investigations and litigation; guidance on courtroom strategies, compliance initiatives, and outreach efforts; and regular coordination with foreign jurisdictions and domestic agencies. His firsthand insight into how regulators assess, investigate, and resolve antitrust matters enables him to provide practical, strategic counsel to clients facing scrutiny from federal and international enforcement authorities.
“Mark has spent decades operating at the highest level of federal enforcement – strategically managing, overseeing, and prosecuting complex criminal disputes and conducting investigations across jurisdictions,” said David E. Funkhouser III, office managing partner for Spencer Fane in Phoenix. “We look forward to how this impressive depth and breadth of experience will bolster our national litigation practice and specifically support the strong and growing Phoenix office.”
Mark is a proactive member of the Federal Bar Association, where he currently serves as Antitrust and Trade Regulation Section Chair; the American Bar Association Antitrust Law, Cartel, and Criminal Practice Committee; and the J. Reuben Clark Law Society.
After obtaining his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University, Mark earned his Juris Doctor magna cum laude from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law.
Mark is licensed to practice in Arizona, the District of Columbia, and Virginia.
