Spencer Fane is pleased to announce the firm as first place winner of the Lawyers Encouraging Academic Performance (LEAP) fundraiser for the second consecutive year. Through efforts coordinated by 2026 Kansas City summer associates Blaine McBroom, Myra Milam, Diego Silva, and Jake Thompson, Spencer Fane raised $7,000 for Operation Breakthrough.
This annual initiative invites Greater Kansas City area law firms to participate in a friendly, philanthropic competition benefiting Operation Breakthrough’s Back-to-School Breakfast. Embodying one of the firm’s core values, Fierce Resolve to Win, Blaine, Myra, Diego, and Jake coordinated this year’s donation campaign at Spencer Fane. Thanks to their efforts, the firm exceeded its fundraising goal by 40% and will help hundreds of children across the community start the school year equipped for success.
Founded in 1971, Operation Breakthrough seeks to help financially disadvantaged children develop to their fullest potential by providing them with a safe, loving, and educational environment. The center also strives to support and empower the children’s families through advocacy, referral services, and emergency aid. With more than $17,000 raised through this year’s LEAP competition, the organization will provide roughly 347 children with fully stocked backpacks, school supplies, and uniforms at the annual Back to School Breakfast.
